چکیده

Abstract We study how the opinions of a group of individuals determine their spatial distribution and connectivity, through an agent-based model. The interaction between agents is described by a Hamiltonian in which agents are allowed to move freely without an underlying lattice (the average network topology connecting them is determined from the parameters). This kind of model was derived using maximum entropy statistical inference under fixed expectation values of certain probabilities that (we propose) are relevant to social organization. Control parameters emerge as Lagrange multipliers of the maximum entropy problem, and they can be associated with the level of consequence between the personal beliefs and external opinions, and the tendency to socialize with peers of similar or opposing views. These parameters define a phase diagram for the social system, which we studied using Monte Carlo Metropolis simulations. Our model presents both first and second-order phase transitions, depending on the ratio between the internal consequence and the interaction with others. We have found a critical value for the level of internal consequence, below which the personal beliefs of the agents seem to be irrelevant.

Habitat suitability modeling of water birds and waders in Hamun wetland by by Maximum Entropy model

Climate change and human activities have increased negative pressure on natural ecosystems. Wetlands are such ecosystems that widely affected by these negative changes. Birds as a part of wildlife in a wetland have damaged by destruction of wetlands, so, a large group of them, are at risk of extinction. Habitat destruction in wetlands in arid and semi-arid areas has more negative effects on the...

Prediction of potential habitats of Astracantha gossypina (Fisch.) Using the maximum entropy model in regional scale

Astracantha gossypina (Fisch.) is one of the most important rangeland plants in the northeastern region of Iran and has a great role in soil conservation and the economy of ranchers. unreasonable uses and management of desire plant species usually led to species loss and the replacement of endemic and specialist species by invasive endemic or exotic species. This study was conducted to determin...

Maximum Entropy Analysis for G/G/1 Queuing System (TECHNICAL NOTE)

This paper provides steady state queue-size distribution for a G/G/1 queue by using principle of maximum entropy. For this purpose we have used average queue length and normalizing condition as constraints to derive queue-size distribution. Our results give good approximation as demonstrated by taking a numerical illustration. In particular case when square coefficient of variation of inter-arr...

Modeling of the Maximum Entropy Problem as an Optimal Control Problem and its Application to Pdf Estimation of Electricity Price

In this paper, the continuous optimal control theory is used to model and solve the maximum entropy problem for a continuous random variable. The maximum entropy principle provides a method to obtain least-biased probability density function (Pdf) estimation. In this paper, to find a closed form solution for the maximum entropy problem with any number of moment constraints, the entropy is consi...

Maximum entropy aggregation of individual opinions

Abstruct-This paper presents several formulations for aggregating opinions about the outcome of a future event+.g., opinions in the form of probabilities are aggregated into a single probability. The approach used to derive these aggregation formulas is maximum entropy inference, with the assumption that the opinions and the event being predicted are joint random variables. As part of the prese...
